1/29/2011 - Chief Ladiga Trail and the Silver Comet Trail

Chief Ladiga and Silver Comet Trails
Day 3
Miles: 36.3
Max Speed: 18.8
Average Speed: 10.2

(1) Above left: One of the bridges on the Chief Ladiga Trail. (2) Above right: Riding along Terrapin Creek.

(3) Above left: The asphalt, sometimes a little worn and broken up by roots in Alabama, turned into a concrete trail when it becomes the Silver Comet Trail in Georgia. I figured concrete would be bumpy but the Trail was as smooth as glass, at least for the 10 or so miles I rode on it in Georgia. The Silver Comet trail runs to the western side of Atlanta. (4) Above right: Coming back into Alabama, I was greeted by an ATV hauling ass down the trail. There are signs all over the trails, "No Motorized Vehicles." Rednecks have no respect for the law.

(5) Above left: Typical signage on the Silver Comet Trail in Georgia. (6) Above right: Taking a snack break at the state line before returning back to Piedmont. Together, these two trails create a long bicycle trail at railroad grades, over a hundred miles long one way.
