Day 3
Algona to Clear Lake, Iowa
Miles: 64.7
Max Speed: 28.0
Average Speed: 12.2

(1) Above left: The first town on the route in the early morning was usually the most crowded and it usually required about a mile walk to get through it. (2) Above right: Beautiful Iowa farmland.

(3) Above left: Destination town of the day was Clear Lake, IA. (4) Above right: Some people bring their own tents and let a service carry their tent and gear each day to the next destination. They have to put up and take down their tent every day though. For some people that is a pretty quick task compared to finding a suitable site to put the tent down on. To consider the magnitude of this event, remember, this is only ONE camp site. There are many other camp sites located through the city, some providing services and others providing none.

(5) Above left: Our service provided several large tents and seating at each camp site which provided desired shade. These large tents have a small hose attached above that shoots out an almost invisible spray that provided additional cooling effect for those sitting under it. (6) Above right: These girls were dancing on the green grass after today's bicycle ride rather than chilling out in the shade.

(7) Above left: Our service provided several nights of musical entertainment which is what the women were dancing to. (8) Above right: There was usually a bigger concert somewhere in the host cities each night for those willing to stay up late into the night. Here is the stage for tonight's concert in Clear Lake.

(9) Above left: Literally, every town that RAGBRAI goes rolling through shuts down as the main road through their town is closed all day. Bigger cities like Clear Lake schedule all sorts of activities for their town during the RAGBRAI day and evening. This crowd of both locals and RAGBRAI riders were watching jet ski acrobatics going on in Clear Lake. (10) Above right: Many bicycle riders cooled off by taking a swim.
