4/22/2010 - Spanish Fort

It is time to start putting in time on the bicycle seat to toughen up the butt to get it ready for RAGBRAI. Today's trip was from the Causeway to the Spanish Fort area and back at a leisurely pace.

(1) Above left: Mobile Bay was originally called, "Bay of the Holy Spirit." (2) Above right: A pair of kayakers out in Blakeley River on a beautiful day.

(3) Above left: There were some short but steep hills in the subdivisions north of Spanish Fort. (4) Above right: This crosswalk serves no purpose for pedestrians who are forced to walk in the street because this new shopping center lacks sidewalks.

(5) Above left: One of the alligators of D'Olive Creek waiting to be fed. Note the little fish also waiting to be fed. (6) Above right: There are several nice wooden bridges in the Daphne area for pedestrians and cyclists. Why do wooden bridges get built with nails? Nails always come loose. Someone is going to trip on these nails and hurt themselves. For bicyclists, these nails will eventually cause someone's tire to go flat.
